marlene mckinnon headcanon/fact sheet
- she comes from a huge family, at least as big as the weasley’s. her maternal aunt is james’ mother, and so she spends a lot of time with the potters. she has two older brothers, an older sister and a younger brother. marley absolutely adores her family. she’s over there at least once a week for dinner, and she considers some of her family members her best friends. the mckinnons are a pureblooded family and while there are some prejudiced factions of her family, marley’s immediate family is fairly accepting of muggles. they constantly use magic in her home, and her parents are highly supportive of marley being an auror. marley is very close to her parents, which can occasionally embarrass her seeing as they like to invite the marauders over for dinner every so often. her family is everything to her. marley will literally do anything for her family. her younger brother, who’s a fifth year at hogwarts, wants to become a member of the order, but she won’t hear of it. moving out of her home was tough, but she’s happy to live on her own, provided that she’s close to her friends in the order.
- although marley is very protective over her family, she is extremely reckless. she’ll listen to rules, but whether or not she’ll follow them completely depends on her own interests. she never listens to anyone but herself. she will take cas’, lily’s, alice’s, emmeline’s and even remus’ advice at times, but in the end what she does is completely of her own choice. she doesn’t like being told what to do by anyone, especially not those her age. she’ll listen to dumbledore and her parents, but that’s it. marlene tends to scoff at most authority. she often looks at the bigger picture instead of the little consequences. she manages to disarm bellatrix lestrange? excellent. it doesn’t matter that bellatrix crucio-ed her beforehand. marlene will definitely risk her own life not only for her friends’, but also to bring a death eater down. it’s not like she doesn’t have any self-value; she does. she just thinks that in a war, the outcome is more important than any harm that could come to her. however, she is scared of being killed in this, deep down. she isn’t a fan of war, no matter how much it seems like it when she puts herself in potentially deadly situations.
- marlene has a lot of self confidence and bravado. she does not care at all what anybody thinks of her or who she hangs out with. some of her family friends will no longer associate with her family because of their affiliation, but that doesn’t bother marley. she’s very decisive and will stand by her opinions at all costs. she can be somewhat narrow-minded in the sense that she puts her own opinions and values first. she does what she wants to be above all else. she makes snap decisions and she stands by them even if they weren’t her best choices. she’s one of those people who never knows when to admit that they’re wrong. marley’s never had a problem with confidence, and for good reason. she knows that she’s pretty and she uses her looks to her advantage. she’s very comfortable in her own skin, so she’ll sometimes frequent the seedier clubs in knockturn alley to get info that the order needs from some of the younger death eaters. she’s an okay manipulator, but she’s quick to lose her temper which usually blows her cover. she can see pretty intimidating to some people, since she’s hot-tempered and she acts like nothing can hurt her. she used to dress very girly, but since joining the order she’s taken to dressing more ~badass, meaning she’s all about leather jackets, boots and lace these days.
- she’s not a very serious or studious person. marlene is all about enjoying herself. she loves to dance and quidditch is her favorite sport. she was a chaser on the gryffindor team back at hogwarts, and she still really loves to fly. she’s extremely partial to firewhiskey and she can drink an impressive amount of alcohol for a girl her size. out of all of the marauders era girls, she’s probably the biggest partier. partying is pretty much irresistible to her; it takes her mind off the war. marley smokes every so often, but it’s more of a bad habit than a crutch in her opinion. she started smoking her seventh year to impress a boy, but the habit’s stuck with her throughout the years. she insists that she can stop any time that she likes, but she does usually fall back on smoking when she’s in a bad mood. marley is also kind of boy-crazy. while she isn’t huge on relationships, she loves the first month or so of dating a guy. after that, she’s disappointed more often than not. she’ll hook up with guys because she isn’t really looking for anything serious. if it comes along, great, but if it doesn’t she doesn’t mind. she loves to force people – including herself – out of their comfort zones, so she constantly tries to drag someone out with her when she’s feeling more rebellious. as wild as she is, marley is smart. she’s particularly talented in transfiguration and defense against the dark arts, and she’s a great duelist. she’s very reliant on magic so in her mind she’s an ideal soldier for the front lines of the order. she’s spent her whole life in the wizarding world, so she’s super interested in the muggle world. her, emmeline and arthur weasley probably all get along very well because they’re all so interested in how muggles live without magic.
- marlene puts on a really tough front. she is reckless, but she’s mostly full of bravado. she acts like nothing can hurt her because she hates the idea that someone will discover her weaknesses. she absolutely hates pity and she refuses to let anyone baby her or coddle her, so she does come off as somewhat of a bitch if you don’t know her. she is pretty friendly, though it does take awhile to gain her trust. she’s very playful and even in the middle of a mission she’ll be cracking jokes to and trying lighten the mood. she pokes fun at her friends a lot, but it’s because she’d rather dwell on light subjects rather than talk about actual serious matters. she holds grudges for ages and she can be kind of judgmental, especially if you’ve hurt someone that she knows. her temper is more than a little ridiculous, and she can be pretty moody. she’s actually terrified by the war, but she feels that if she acts like she isn’t afraid, she won’t be. she is extremely loyal and she would probably have some kind of huge breakdown if anything were to happen to her friends and family. as independent as she likes to pretend to be, marley’s actually just a big homebody with a big heart.
- obviously, her best friends are lily, cas, em and alice. marley is a great friend and she is rather friendly, even though it takes awhile to gain her trust. she loves those four girls to death and she’s pretty much always up in their business. james is her cousin and she’s pretty close with him. they both realize that the potter/mckinnons are some of the most attractive people in the wizarding world, after all. in my head they grew up together and she’s close with the potter parents too. peter creeps on marley all the time, much to her amusement. he hugs her pretty much every time she walks in and out of a room, which alternately makes her laugh and annoys the hell out of her. in the past she’s dated gideon prewett, sirius black and a bunch of other guys. swag hurt her pride when they broke up, so she’s still snappy with him because marley doesn’t let anyone take a hit at her pride. in my headcanon she’s really good friends with benjy fenwick and mary mcdonald, even though she teases the hell out of the former. benjy likes marley, but you know he obviously has the herp and besides, marley thinks of him as an annoying little brother.
